Proposal Lifecycle Services at the European XFEL: Managing the Proposal Lifecycle from idea to Open Data

At European XFEL, the main services playing a pivotal role on the planning, preparation and orchestration of experiments proposal Data and Metadata Lifecycle are the User Portal (UPEX), Metadata Catalog (myMdC) and Electronic Logbook (myLog). Aims at the European XFEL: Provide simple and efficient proposal submission forms and later user related workflows. Efficient and transparent communication between experiment teams and facility staff and better metadata tracking – exploiting features of a sophisticated chat tool to combine communication with documentation. Automatize and simplify experiments data and metadata management and long term preservation. Simplify experiments metadata documentation as it is crucial to understand the primarily collected scientific data and make it reusable at any later time-point. Promoting FAIR and open data and Metadata for scientists revisiting their own experiments but also for the community who should be able to work on public and open-access data.
