Abstract

The Small Quantum Systems Instrument is located at the SASE3 soft x-ray branch of European XFEL. It is dedicated to studies of fundamental properties and processes in atoms, ions, clusters, molecules and nanoparticles. In particular, experiments investigate non-linear phenomena, dynamical processes on femtosecond timescales and coherent scattering. SQS operation in 2024: 9 user and 2 in-house experiments (6 days each); 21 days of commissioning. New beamline capabilities: Refocusing optics downstream the instrument is commissioned; Online spectral diagnostics of the FEL (DIAG3); Short pulse temporal characterization (angular streaking, cookie box); Polarization control for the FEL (Apple-X undulators).
