Abstract
We have demonstrated the MHz X-ray Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (XPCS) using a contactless method at European XFEL. A millimeter-sized droplet sample was levitated into the air via an acoustic levitator and evaporated its solvent. A standard colloidal sample (i.e., Ludox) was investigated for the bulk structural evolutions from the Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) and the dynamical information from the MHz XPCS as a function of evaporation time. In our experiment, the dynamic information obtained from the levitated sample and from conventional measurements (sample in glass capillary) shows good agreement. This study outlines a new path toward the investigation of ultrafast structure and dynamics in soft-matter systems using X-ray speckle techniques, for instance, XPCS, X-ray Speckle Visibility Spectroscopy (XSVS), and X-ray Cross-Correlation Analysis (XCCA).
