Abstract
Monochromators based on Silicon crystals are currently in use in the European XFEL beamlines that deliver Hard X-Ray to the following experiments: FXE, MID and HED. The current design is based on a sine arm mechanism for the control of the Bragg angle and on the Artificial Chanel-Cut Mechanism (ACCM), that allows the precise relative alignment of the crystals during commissioning. A new monochromator development is ongoing at XFEL in order to ease the commissioning of the single device and also of the 4-bounce scheme and therefore to improve the overall reliability of the monochromization in the Hard X-Ray beamlines. The concept is based on a cryocooled monolithic silicon channel-cut that is mounted on a high precision goniometer. This contribution gives an overview of the mechanical concept and discussed benefits and issues of the concept. Details of the monolithic crystal and main mechanical components are also provided.
