Abstract
The Materials Imaging and Dynamics (MID) instrument is equipped with a large Multipurpose Chamber (MPC) for experiments. It features a removable lid which allows both in-air and invacuum measurements using the same base equipment for sample and optics motion. It has been in use since the first experiments at MID in 2019 and the ongoing upgrade of the MPC is an evolution of the current design based on experience made over the last years. The aim is to 1) enable new types of scientific experiments in order to expand the current capabilities of MID, and 2) to facilitate operation and setup of ancillary equipment with a better access to the sample environment.
