Abstract

Two HIgh REsolution hard X-ray single-shot spectrometers (HIREX spectrometers) for spectral diagnostics were installed in the XTD9 and XTD6 tunnels of SASE1 and SASE2 hard X-ray FEL beamlines. They measure the spectral characteristics of individual X-ray pulses and provide this information to the experiments for improving data analysis. It is also of important to know the spectrum of the source on a shot-to-shot basis for the accelerator operation, for instance in order to stabilize and optimize the lasing process. The HIREX spectrometers are based on a bent crystal as dispersive element, a fast 1D strip detector(Gotthard) capable of MHz-repetition rate, and an optical camera for 2D detection at low repetition rates. The spectrometer in SASE1 additionally features a diamond diffraction grating optionally used in transmission to split off only a small fraction (0.5%) of the photon beam towards the bent crystal, and therefore this spectrometer consists of two chambers: the grating unit and the crystal unit. Detector systems on the HIREX spectrometers: The optical system: a) sCOMS optical camera of 2 k x 1 k with 6.5 μm pixels (Photonic Science,UK), b) optical lenses (Kowa Company, Japan), c) YAG screen of 50 μm thickness (Crytur Company, Czech Republic) with a 45° mirror. The Gotthard 1D X-ray detector is mounted on the breadboard, which in turn is mounted on the linear stage.
