At high-repetiion X-ray lasers the generated beams can potentially damage radiation shielding equipment e.g. by drilling holes through beam stops or lead hutches. To prevent this, a beam confinement system will be implemented at the European XFEL, consisting of passive, active and administrative elements. Concepts and elements of this beam confinement system and their interfaces with personal safety, machine protection, and control systems will be presented in this talk.
